Road Trip

Here's the situation. You're planning a road trip from, let's say, Boston to Chicago. You have one day to finalize all your plans. How do you go about doing it?

The Novice
First you'll ask around to see if anyone has made the same trek before. You'll head to your local library and pick up some AAA Travel Guides. They have all the information you'll need for the surrounding areas of any major city. You'll find reviews of hotels, places to stop along the way and more. You can also pick up some maps while you're there. You'll book your hotel rooms over the phone and you'll be on your way.

Intermediate User
You'll head down to your local CompUsa and purchase the latest version of Rand Mcnally's TripMaker. It's a great software package that will basically plan your trip for you. You'll print out all your directions and then find out where all your check points are. You'll head to Yahoo! and research the areas that Rand suggests you stay over night at. You'll get some phone numbers of local hotels and taa daa, our trip is planned.

Internet Addicts
You crack open your beta version of IE5.5 and head directly to InfoSpace. You find the phone number to a hotel in Chicago. After finding one that has an ethernet jack for your laptop, you make a reservation through their website. After that you head over to MapQuest and punch in the start and finish points of your trip. You quickly find out that it's going to take you over 18 hours to drive there. Realizing you can't do all that driving alone, you call up a buddy and ask him if he wants to take the trip with you. Under some strict terms (that you take him to a Blackhawks game) he agrees. So head over to TicketMaster and buy a pair of Blackhawks tickets. You save all the maps that you found through MapQuest on to your laptop. You also print out some hard copies. As you're traveling across the United States on I-90 your buddy can feed you directions from the print outs that you made or directly from the laptop. Whatever he sees fit.
