Cecil Adams from The Straight Dope writes that there are many theories on this, ranging from the fact that "Engineers believe that their bosses check on them every 10 minutes" to a lack of precision in the original alarm clocks, about 10 minutes, was what they were programmed for. Chad's girlfriend, from Santa Barbara wrote in telling us he IMs her all day, and secretly dreams of being in one of those boy bands Ed: how about 98 Degrees of Nerdome, or Nerds to Men, or the Palm Street Nerds

Ed's wife, from Tom's River NJ, wife describes her Nerdly husband's ideal life "Ed is a wonderful programmer. He never went to school for the profession..and always puts in quality work. He constantly manages to put in his regular 40 hours work week, go to school, and add an extra 30-40 hours for his own business." Ed: 40 hour work week programming? Where can I get that kind of job!
